Waiting period of a widow or a divorced woman.

Name of the meal to end a fast.

A dress worn by pilgrims when performing Hajj or Umra. It consists of two white unsown clothes.

Gathering; Gathering of members for academic and sport competitions etc.

Maids of Allah.

Injeel/injil
Gospel or New Testament given to Jesus may peace be upon him

Insha’Allah
‘If Allah wills’. Used to call down God’s blessings in a matter.

Iqamat
Shortened verses of the Adhan which is recited loudly to indicate that a congregational prayer is about to start. Also called Takbeer.

Qur’anic term – read, recite, proclaim.

Isha
The last evening prayer offered before going to bed.

Publication.

Public notice.

Isra

Istighfar
A prayer for suppressing tendency towards sin or seeking forgiveness after doing a sinful act and being remorseful.

Istikhara
A special prayer to seek guidance from Allah in a matter.

Ithar
Self sacrifice for the welfare of others.

Itika’af
Retirement to a mosque for the last 10 days of Ramadhan.
