Allegation that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was not buried in the Holy Prophet’s grave

Argument:

Allah’s Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him said:  “Hazrat Isa may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him will die after completing the duration he was destined to pass in the world and that Muslims would offer his funeral prayers and bury him next to the grave of the holy Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar may Allah be pleased with him.” (Mishkat, P. 480).

Rebuttal:

First of all, this is an incomplete quote as it doesn’t mention which volume it is from? But there is a similar quote in Mishkat, Volume four, entitled ‘Descent of Jesus, No. 642

Abdullah-bin-Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah said ‘Jesus, son of Mary, will come down to the world.  He will marry and there will be his issue, and he will live for forty five years and then die.  He will be buried with me in my grave.  Then I and Jesus, son of Mary, will stand up in one grave between Abu Bakr and Omer.
Ibnul Jaozi – Miskkat, Vol Four, Chapter ‘Descent of Jesus’, No. 642 pg.82

In this hadith, instead of ‘next to’, it states ‘be buried with me’. In such types of hadith which may refer to the Promised Messiah having the same name or parents as the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, etc. we understand from such kind of hadith that Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad may peace be upon him will be the ‘spiritual representation of the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon himand guide his followers back to his teachings. We don’t take it literally.

If we did take it literally as many Muslims do, then it would mean:-

a) Since Hazrat Isa may peace be upon him was 33 years old when he went up, will he live for another 12 years or 45 years?

Of course the question of age also comes into it; Hazrat Isa is now 2033 years old or did he not age whilst in heaven?  Following that in other hadith they relate that the world will then come to an end.  Therefore it seems that Allah will keep Hazrat Isa may peace be upon him alive in heaven for 2000 years, he will then descend, force everyone to become Muslims, kill the Dajjal, etc.  Then when finally everyone has accepted Islam and there will be peace in the world and only 45 years has passed, Allah will then end the world!

Why was there a need to send Hazrat Isa may peace be upon him if Allah was going to destroy the world anyway?

Allah could have just skipped Hazrat Isa forcing everyone to accept Islam (and thereby going against the Islamic teachings – ‘there is no compulsion in Islam’ – (Holy Qur’an Ch. 2:257) skipped killing the Dajjal, because the world was coming to an end anyway!  It doesn’t make any sense.

b) Does it mean that Muslims will dig up the body of the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and then bury Hazrat Isa may peace be upon him on top of him?  To what purpose is this being done?  It seems very disrespectful.

c) After Jesus has died, both he and the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him will come back to life?  As it states “then I and Jesus will stand up in one grave“. What is the purpose of this?  If the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him was miraculously going to come back alive, why did he die?  Why wasn’t he kept alive in heaven rather than facing death.  Why then keep Hazrat Isa may peace be upon him alive, if the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him was going to come back alive?  What will the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him now do, now that he is alive again?

Therefore we do not take such types of Ahadith, literally, instead we understand them, and any reference to being like the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to mean that he will be a follower of the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and renew his message to mankind and revive his religion.
