Allegation that Mirza Ghulam Ahmad has changed the Kalima

Argument:

It is said that Ahmadis do not follow the Kalima, but instead have their own Kalima where they recite ‘Ahmad‘ instead of ‘Muhammad‘; even though they may say ‘Muhammad‘ but in their hearts they really mean ‘Ahmad

 Rebuttal:

This is pure nonsense!  All Ahmadis follow the same Kalima as every Muslim and no Ahmadi has ever said or meant ‘Ahmad’ instead of ‘Muhammad’.  The fact is that every single Mosque that we build, the Kalima can be seen outside and inside and it always says ‘Muhammad’.  How can anyone know what is in a person’s heart?  No Ahmadi will ever say that they mean ‘Ahmad’ when they say ‘Muhammad’, because it simply isn’t true.  We believe in:-

Ash-hado an la ilaha illallahu, wahdahoo, la sharika lahoo

Wa Ash-hado anna Mohammadan ‘abdahoo wa rasooluh

which means:-

“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, He is the One, without any partner

and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger.”

This is a blatant lie to try to fool people into believing that we put Hazrat Ahmad may peace be upon him before our beloved Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

But interestingly, many Muslims are these days being taught a different Kalima translation from their leaders and are taught:-

“ I testify that there is no God but Allah, no deity worthy of worship…  And I testify that

Muhammad may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him is his last and final messenger and the seal of all prophets

This is not the translation of the Kalima Shahadah, if we break it down, then the translation would be:-

Ash-hado  (I bear witness) an (that) la (no) ilaha (God) illallahu (except Allah),

wahdahoo (He is One), la sharika (no partner) lahoo (to Him)

Wa (and) Ash-hado (I bear witness) anna (that) Mohammadan (Mohammed)

‘abduhoo (His servant) wa (and) rasooluh (messenger)

As you can see there is no mention whatsoever of ‘his last and final’ or ‘seal’ in fact the term ‘seal of Prophets’ is ‘Khataman Nabiyyeen’, which is found in the Holy Qur’an, but not in the Kalima Shahadah.  Therefore if anyone has changed their Kalima, then it is the one being taught by some Muslim leaders, but not our Ahmadi Muslim leaders.

Another play on words can be found in the explanation about Hazrat Jesus may peace be upon him returning, for instance they say:-

Argument:

This is a Christian and Ahmadi misunderstanding. When we Muslims say that the prophet Muhammad is the last prophet we mean that there will be no other NEW prophet to be sent anymore,  there won’t be any new prophets coming with a new different message. The message of Allah was made 100% complete with the prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and after him there would be no more prophets coming to earth to teach something new. This is what the Christian and Ahmadis fail to grasp. The prophet Jesus may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him is coming back, but he is not coming back with a new book, or a new message, he will be coming as per Allah’s instructions, to carry out exactly as Allah described through Muhammad peace be upon him, and with the same message as the prophet Muhammad, not abrogating it or changing it.

Rebuttal:

Jazakumullah for your answer but brother once again you have added words! Just like the Maulvis interpretation of the Kalima, that they add final or last prophet, words not found in the Kalima, now they add New to the hadith.  Where does any hadith, in any book, state that no NEW prophet can now come or even no prophet except the old Jesus Christ can now come!  How can you live with this?  This is no ‘cunning attempt to ignite doubt with an argument that the prophet Muhammad cannot be the last prophet since Jesus is coming back according to Islam’, this is fact! They are pathetically trying to justify this blatant contradiction that on one hand they say no prophet can now come and on the other hand they say but Jesus, a prophet, can come and try to justify this by saying ‘well he is an old prophet not a new prophet’. Old or new, he is still a prophet coming after the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.  Now if you choose to be blind and accept such nonsense, that is up to you, but don’t expect us to accept this contradiction and tell us we are not on the right path.  At least on our path there is no contradiction, we can accept that the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him is Khataman Nabiyyeen in the true sense, that it means he is the best or seal of prophets and that he was correct that Hazrat Isa will return spiritually.

If you state that your understanding is ‘there won’t be any new prophets coming with a new different message. The message of Allah was made 100% complete with the prophet Muhammad may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and after him there would be no more prophets coming to earth to teach something new’ then we totally agree with you that the Holy Prophet may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him was the last law-bearing prophet, that the Holy Qur’an is complete and no new law or message will come and that means that now only a prophet can come in Islam, teaching the message of the Holy Qur’an.  This is exactly what we believe Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad may peace be upon him did, so if this is what you believe, then accept him and leave all these contradictions and follow the true Islam.
